I just updated my sidebar (again). No one told me my archives were totally out of date!

Anyhow, I would like to point out three significant events on my calendar:

Saturday, 11/10: Cornell at Brown Hockey
Friday, 11/16: Cornell at Harvard Hockey
Saturday, 11/24: Cornell v. BU Hockey at MSG

Yes, Cornell Hockey three weekends in a row. I haven't been to that many games in that short of a time period since I was still in Ithaca! Woohoo!

Speaking of Cornell, I received my first phone call from the Cornell Fund last night... and it wasn't that bad. I spoke with Nicole, a freshman AEM major. First she asked me to update my information (home and work), then she gave me a nice synopsis of events happening or recently occurred on campus (the Dalai Lama, Sandra Day O'Connor, Steven Colbert). I was expecting the plea for money to follow, but first she asked me if I had any advice for her. And finally she asked me for money - and by that time, I was actually tempted to give it to her! Of course, Cornell gets nothing from me until I pay off all of my student loans, which I kinda told her (I was nicer, of course). She said no problem, and just asked me to consider Cornell when I become a millionaire. Nicole, I will certainly consider Cornell when that happens. :-)

Links of interest (just because I have three, and that makes up a list!):

Plant-A-Daisy: Fans of Pushing Daisies (which just got picked up for a full season, yay)? This site lets you plant your own daisy, asking one question to a departed person. You can then read other people's submissions. My favorite? To Aristotle, "Were you on drugs?"

Freakonomics Blog: I loved the book, and now I'm loving the blog. The posts, by the authors of the book, are short, and usually point to other articles, but they're relevant and I'm enjoying them. Speaking of the book, I've also purchased this book to get the other side of the coin. Once I read it, it'll be interesting to compare the two books and form my own opinions.

(Side note: I couldn't remember the name of the book, and it took me awhile to find the link on Amazon. While I was looking, I stumbled upon at least half a dozen economics books I'd be interested in reading. Now I'm making a list. Spending money to fuel your interest in economics is good, right?)

Chianti, Not Steroids for Bike Racing: This is a Wall Street Journal video (you have to scroll down a little to find it). Not only did it remind me of some of the lovely sites I saw (and didn't get to see) and my recent trip, but what a great idea! I totally want to train for a bike race in Italy, fueled by nothing other than prosciutto and Chianti! That's my kind of life!

Today I uploaded the last of the Italy pictures, and they are all online now, for your enjoyment. You can see them here. Of course, none of them are labeled. That's the next step. And then the travel diaries (you still want to hear about the trip, right?). And then figuring out which of the 650ish pictures I want prints of, and in what size. So... don't expect this to be the last you hear about Italy.

In the meantime, I have (sorta) been doing other things with my life, although work is doing its best to get in the way of that (I seriously just put the suitcases from both my trip to the Poconos and to Italy away this past weekend - really). A sampling:
  • Dan came into town the weekend after I got back from Italy (no rest for the weary), so he, Kathy and I took a sunset cruise around the Boston Harbor on a tall ship and ate at The Omni Parker House (Parker House rolls! Schrod! Boston Creme Pie! Port!). Dan and I also went to Castle Island (where Fort Independence was closed, despite what they told me on the phone), toured an Argentinian training vessel (the largest tall ship in the world - awesome) and ate at the Legal Test Kitchen. I capped off the weekend by driving down to Providence for carrot cake, and then driving to Newport where we ate at The Black Pearl. I also have a ton of pictures from that weekend (I was still clearly in tourist mode), which will get uploaded eventually.
  • I saw an outstanding performance of The 39 Steps by the Huntington Theatre Company at the Boston University Theatre. I love theatre, and this one was a real treat - very well performed.
  • One of my coworkers who I adore left, so we went out of an evening of drinks and appetizers. I miss having her around.
  • My roommate had a birthday! This past Saturday we went out to celebrate at the bar her brothers works at (don't remember the name, but it's near Kenmore Square), where three of her friends also celebrated birthdays. There was the Red Sox game and cupkaes. Afterwards, we went briefly to another bar, and then ended up getting pizza in Central Square (this was not our intention at first, and I do not advise walking from Kenmore to Central Squares in heels) before taking a cab home. I hadn't had a late night out in awhile, so it was a nice treat (though I was of course exhausted the next day, that part I don't like).
  • Went out for girls' night with Kristen and Cheryl a couple of weeks ago. We went out for sushi at Takemura in Harvard Square, saw Eastern Promises and then met up with Cecilia for ice cream at Herrell's and caught up on each other's lives.
And that's pretty much it, except for work. I bought some tickets, made some reservations for the next couple of months. I'm... evaluating things at work (that's the best way to put it) since I hit the 6-month mark, and that was the time period I set for my evaluation (is this what I really want? what's my future here? etc....). I'm looking forward to the trip to NYC, which is going to include dinner at Gordon Ramsay at The London, the BU-Cornell hockey game at MSG, and apparently a full English breakfast.

Hopefully things will calm down soon (ha! I always say that and things pretty much never change) and I can actually write about the trip (and add some details to my photos - they're currently labeled things like "Italy2007 1067").
